Detox Tea Recipe: Dandelion and Burdock Root Tea

The birds are chirping louder, the sun is beaming strong rays, and the trees and shrubs are starting to show their buds. Yes folks, spring is alive and well. Spring cleaning for your body can help rid your body of that extra weight and can help boost your energy levels!

A simple way that I like to cleanse my body in the spring is by adding a dandelion and burdock decoction (fancy word for root tea) to my daily schedule. I’m going to give it to you straight… it tastes like warm dirt water. Spiking it with some honey can offset the bitter flavour a bit, BUT don’t add too much because it’s the bitter flavour received by your taste buds that signals your liver to secrete bile which aids your body in excreting fat soluble toxins. Take a peek at some of the benefits of these two herbs:

Benefits of Dandelion Root

  • REDUCES CHOLESTEROL – daily dandelion tea has been shown to help optimize blood lipid profiles
  • RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS – helps prevent oxidative damage in cells (aging!)
  • LAXATIVE EFFECT – gets things moving along in the GI tract to help expel waste and toxins
  • SUPPORTS LIVER HEALTH – shown to have a protective effect against against alcohol induced liver damage
  • STRENGTHENS BONES – high in Vitamin K, so can help to encourage bone mineralization
  • SUPPORTS SKIN HEALTH – applying dandelion extract to the skin has shown to prevent UV damage
